As this first semester comes to a close I feel like I'm moving further and further away from the stigma of "Steph, the birthmom." I'm taking hold of my own personality again. Flexing my muscles and remembering to be myself. I feel like I've found myslf again. I don't have all the answers to all my questions in life but I do know where I'm going.
After placement the world was this big scary thing. I had no idea where to go. I only knew I couldn't go back where I had come from. I feel like I've done a good job of meeting each new fork in the road with the question: What now? I've pressed forward and I feeling my upward momentum picking up speed.
Life has been far from perfect that past few months but I have gained knowledge. About myself, about school, about life. I have grown in so many ways too. Too bad my grades don't all show my stellar improvements. I am still working on developing balance in my life. My biggest fear when coming out to school was hiding socially. I overcame that fear but in the midst of doing that...I sort of neglected my classes.
This is the end of 2008 and but with it comes a new year and new opportunities to continue learning, growing, and moving forward. I'm heading home in a week and I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and put my walking shoes on.
